About Mike Johns
Having graduated with a Business Degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois in June 1977, I entered Mortgage Banking one month later and this field has been my only professional business endeavor since then. After the initial 4 years in the business, I became a producing branch manager and continued in that capacity through my career in Chicago which ended in 9/2011 when I began calling Sedona, AZ my primary home. Along the way, I completed the 3-year School of Mortgage Banking, obtained a real estate brokers license that I maintained for 32 yrs., while obtaining the GRI designation in 1987. As a producing branch manager, I obtained my FHA direct endorsement designation when the program was released in 1987. Not satisfied with managing and producing loans only, I served on the Governors State University Real Estate Advisory Board, South Suburban Builders Sales and Marketing Council, Illinois Mortgage Bankers FHA/VA liaison Committee and the Education Committee for the South and Southwestern Board of Realtors. I was also a guest speaker for the South Suburban Builders Association and at my alma mater. As a producing branch manager, my branches were consistently the most profitable branch each year for the various companies I worked for. I worked with over 60 condominium projects through the Chicago land area, obtaining various approvals from FHA/VA, FNMA and FHLMC so that my company could be the sole lender in those projects. My crowning achievement was the closing of 900 mortgages in 1986, which made me one of the top originators in the nation. In my off time, I enjoy volunteering, hiking, traveling and spending time with my wife Reba (who has come to be the Operations Manager at the Sedona Film Festival), my 2 adult sons and believe it or not an adult grandson. Living in Sedona is like living in a National Monument and there isn't a day that goes by that I am not overwhelmed by the beauty here and the untamed wildness throughout the state. I thank the day that my wife suggested that we don't have to wait until retirement to live in Sedona and that happily found me here at least 10 yrs before what was in my game plan.
